Tallow Skincare FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is tallow suitable for sensitive or acne-prone skin?

Tallow has a fatty-acid profile that closely mirrors the lipids naturally found in human skin. Many people with sensitive skin find it well-tolerated. If you have acne-prone skin, we recommend starting with a patch test (see below) and introducing the product gradually. Everyone's skin is different, and what works beautifully for one person may not suit another.

Will tallow clog my pores?

Tallow is often described as having a low comedogenic potential, meaning it is unlikely to block pores for most people. However, comedogenicity can vary by individual skin type, formulation, and application amount. We cannot guarantee a specific outcome for every skin type. Patch testing before full-face use is always a good idea.

Does tallow feel greasy on the skin?

A small amount goes a long way. When warmed between your fingertips and applied to slightly damp skin, our tallow balm absorbs readily and leaves a comfortable, non-greasy finish for most users. If you experience excess shine, try using a smaller amount or apply at night as part of your evening routine.

Where does your tallow come from?

We source our tallow from grass-fed cattle. We are committed to transparency and encourage you to reach out if you have specific questions about our supply chain. We only share sourcing claims we can substantiate.

What other ingredients are in your products?

Our formulations are intentionally simple. Each product's full ingredient list is displayed on its product page. We keep additives to a minimum so you always know exactly what you're applying to your skin.

How should I store my tallow balm?

Store your balm in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. A bathroom cabinet or bedside table at room temperature is ideal. Avoid leaving it in a hot car or in direct sun, as heat can affect texture and longevity.

What is the shelf life?

Properly stored, our tallow balm has a shelf life of up to 12 months from the date of manufacture. The batch date is printed on the base of each jar. If you notice any change in smell, colour, or texture before that date, discontinue use.

How do I patch test?

Apply a small amount of product to the inside of your wrist or behind your ear. Leave it undisturbed for 24–48 hours. If you experience redness, itching, or irritation, rinse off and do not proceed with full use. If your skin feels comfortable, you can introduce the product to your face gradually.

Can I use tallow balm with my existing skincare routine?

Yes. Tallow balm works well as a moisturising step, typically applied after any water-based serums or treatments. Because it is an occlusive-rich product, using it as the last step in your routine helps seal in the layers applied before it.

Do you test on animals?

No. We do not conduct or commission animal testing on any of our finished products.
